Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) is the main funding body for engineering and physical sciences research in the UK. We cover engineering and the physical sciences: we fund research into chemistry, engineering, information and communications technologies, materials, mathematical sciences and physics. Though we do not have restrictions on application areas, the majority of research we support must be in engineering and the physical sciences. Click here for further information.

The following funding opportunities are available

EPSRC PhD Studentships (Doctoral Partnership Grant) - Three and a half year studentships in the form of Standard PhD Studentships, CASE Competition studentships (Collaborative/Industrial placements are available). 

The award will cover the University Leeds standard Research fee for the duration of the studentship. Annual stipend £15,009 in Session 2019/20 for full-time study, part-time will be pro-rata, the amount increase per in line with UKRI rates. There is a small Research Training Support Grant available with the award.

For the above awards, UK students will be eligible for a full award, covering academic fees at the UK/EU rate and a maintenance grant. EU candidates will be eligible for an award paying academic fees only, except in exceptional circumstances or where residency in the UK has been established for more than 3 years prior to the start of the course.
