What course are you studying?

I am studying MSc Food Science and Nutrition.

Why did you decide to study a master at the University of Leeds?

The University of Leeds ranked 2nd Food Science by all the major UK league table, so I will have the chance to access world-class facilities and academic staff. After seeing the modules, I really like it, not only because of the course setting but also it can help me to transfer course theory to industrial practice.  Moreover, the University of Leeds has come to the third in the UK for student experience while studying and Leeds is an attractive city to live.

What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University so far and why?

I think for me is that teachers try to help us to have critical thinking. In China, we used to be taught to follow what the academics say, but in here, teachers encourage us to think for ourselves. Therefore, now I have a wider knowledge and thoughts about different areas and can question the validity of evidence.

What other projects have you taken part in outside of your studies?

I am a volunteer at Teddy Bear Hospital and School has provided lot activities for us to do outside of the course. I joined a group of people to do voluntary work at a primary school. I taught knowledge about x-ray, healthy eating, first-aid, tooth brushing and so on. I really enjoy and proud of it, as I can use my knowledge to help children to have an understanding of their body. After doing this I improve my presentation skill and be more patient.

What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?

Leeds is really a suitable city for students to study and learn here. Leeds is not a big city like London, which is I think is better as I feel safer and convenient. Leeds has a good range of shops, restaurants and businesses are very good, so students can buy everything they want and attend so many activities.

What are your ambitions for the future?

I would like to work in a multinational company and work between China and UK.

What do experiences at Leeds you think will help you in your future career?

I am really thankful that the School organised many activities which give us the opportunity to improve ourselves and prepare for future life. I have a good understanding now of interviewing processes and what kind of questions I may be asked. The most important thing is that I learned a lesson from my interview at the University, and I get to know how to prepare my next interview.
