Why did you decide to study at the University of Leeds?

I have always thought of studying abroad and wanted to immerse myself in a completely new culture and environment, and the best part – getting to know all sorts of people from different parts of the world. The fact that Leeds offers one of the best food science courses in the UK and just how beautiful the university and city are as a whole, just makes me genuinely love this place so much more.

What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University and why?

I would say the best thing about food science is that it never gets boring. We get to learn so many interesting facts about our day-to-day food products, and the best part, having countless free food from the countless food product sensory tests available!

Tell us about some of the exciting projects you have completed so far?

Since I am a transfer student, I have only been in Leeds for a year so far. The project we had on food product development intrigued me the most. During this project, we got to brainstorm ideas and basically just be as innovative as possible while having to plan out the entire food product development process for our final product idea.

What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?

Leeds is a great city, it's not overcrowded or too noisy like other cities, which to me is the beauty of Leeds. You can find places for peace and quiet during the day, and also have a vibrant and lively nightlife too. It is the perfect balance for the ultimate student life and experience, the best of both worlds.

What are your ambitions for the future?

I plan to work in the industry for a couple of years, essentially to gain some real-life work experiences, but my ultimate goal is to eventually be able to manage a small start-up business of my own.

What experiences at Leeds do you think will help you in your future career?

Definitely, the skills that I have picked up throughout the many assignments, lab works and presentations have taught me so much that can help in my future career. Not forgetting how much I have grown, living alone in a completely new environment, and basically just learning how to be an adult, and for once being completely independent, taking care of myself and the many other aspects of life. I would say this has changed me, it’s changed my perspective on life and how I would handle myself in many situations that life has to offer in the near future.

What would you say to students coming to do the same course?

I will say, just try to enjoy and embrace every bit of it. Make the most out of lab classes and all the interesting projects that you might be a part of throughout your time in Leeds and, of course, basically just have fun!
