What course are you studying?
I’m doing a Masters in Food Science and Nutrition.
Why did you decide to study a masters at the University of Leeds?
I started doing my research on the universities that are known to provide the best facilities and care for their students and equip them with the knowledge in this field to prepare them for the workforce. And the University of Leeds seems to tick all of the boxes so I’m very lucky to be here.
What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University so far and why?
Well, the content has been very interesting and it's definitely something that I’ve been curious about since young. Apart from that, the lecturers have been really friendly and helpful with every problem we face as students; and that alone made coming to university and balancing the work that much easier. Also, it’s my first year in the UK so that’s pretty exciting. The people here are nice and the weather is amazing, apart from the sporadic rainfall.
Meeting people from all around the world has been something I’ve never really had the opportunity to do so it has been pretty eye-opening. Learning about their culture and language has been a great experience and I’ve made some friends that I think will last a lifetime.
What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?
I didn’t set any kind of expectations when I decided to come here. I was pleasantly surprised when I found that Leeds has pretty much everything you need all in one spot so I’m very lucky - very convenient, especially if you’re walking from the university.
What are your ambitions for the future?
I’m generally interested in a lot of things but for now I would really like to work for a food company to really immerse myself in the industry and get acquainted with the nitty-gritty of the whole thing and some industry experience.
What experiences at Leeds do you think will help you in your future career?
I’ve definitely learned a lot during my time here but I think it’s the confidence I’ve gained over the year that would probably prove the most useful in my career. I have met people from all walks of life which has changed my perspective so I think that has been a great experience, as well as learning to manage my time balancing school and social life
What would you say to students coming to do the same course?
Come with an open mind, be nice to everyone, and be ready for a challenge because to be able to do well you really need to be prepared. It is challenging and a lot of fun. I've really enjoyed the labs I've had with my coursemates and I’m sure it will be worth it for any student coming here.
