Profile
I am holding a postdoctoral Marie Curie fellowship within the EU Horizon 2020 Framework. The aim of my research project is to identify structural drivers of post-crisis urban transformations in Southern European cities by comparing Athens and Barcelona. The emphasis on housing is to ascertain the role of transnational investors and concomitant urban restructuring.
Prior to my fellowship in Leeds I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Autonomous University of Madrid and as a research associate at the National Centre for Social Research in Athens.
Research interests
My broader research interests cover three key themes:
(i) Urban policies and gentrification;
(ii) Interaction of diverse ethnic and social groups and fear of the “other”, and;
(iii) Post-crisis processes of housing financialisation in Spain and Greece.
My regional expertise focuses on Southern European cities, with an emphasis on the cities of Athens, Barcelona and Madrid. I have collaborated in two EC FP7 projects (DIVERCITIES and CONTESTED_CITIES) and I was PI in a cross-disciplinary project by the EC and the Greek Government (Contested Cities Athens 2017).
