Deep-marine systems remain a fertile area of research, however comparative analyses amongst deep-marine architecture are currently difficult to accurately accomplish due to the wide variety of approaches that exist within deep-marine architectural characterisation. This study has thus aimed to rectify this inefficiency through its development of an innovative deep-marine architectural database. This database – the Deep-Marine Architecture Knowledge Store (DMAKS) – has been meticulously designed to enable standardisation of deep-marine data from ancient, modern and subsurface datasets. The database approach enables compound analyses between multiple datasets regardless of their individual study parameters. Such an approach is shown to be capable of aiding reservoir characterisation, predictive modelling and analogue selection, as the ability to effectively integrate deep-marine sedimentary datasets produce metadata outputs.
