Ioannis Droutsas

My background is in Environmental engineering where I was firstly introduced to the topic of environmental protection and sustainability. At that time I gained fundamental knowledge on modelling of environmental systems. For my MSc study I developed a statistical model for predicting the environmental behaviour of citizens towards their domestic waste. Prior to my PhD, I worked as waste manager in the industrial sector. My duties extended from waste identification and communication with the receptors to ensuring safe transport and disposal. For my PhD I am looking at the combined impact of climate change and air pollution on agriculture.

Research interests

My research is focused on the determination of the interaction between climate change and ozone pollution on crop yield and nutritional properties. My main goal is to assess the risks posed by climate variability and high air pollution on food production as well as their effects on human nutrition and health. For doing this, I am primarily interested in the development and use of crop models for the simulation of agroecosystems.
