Dr Alok Kumar Pandey

Profile

I obtained my PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, India. My PhD research work was funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India under INSPIRE Programme. I have since gained teaching experience as an Assistant Professor at the Central University of Haryana, Mahedargarh, India; an independent researcher at the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom; and a Research Consultant at the University of Leicester, Leicester, United Kingdom.

Research interests

My research focuses on the investigation of Air pollution climatology and factors influencing it using available observational data, satellite retrievals data, and global climate model simulations results. I am particularly interested to compare observational, satellite retrievals and the model simulation from urban to regional scales.

At the University of Leeds, Leeds, United Kingdom, I am using observational in-situ & remote sensing data to identify interesting & well-documented cases of fog over India. Here, I am conducting idealised simulations of fog cases based on observations using MONC (Met Office NERC Cloud model) coupled with CASIM (Cloud-Aerosol Interacting Microphysics) scheme; conducting sensitivity tests to identify key sensitivities & uncertainties in the prediction of fog.
