Michael Shotton

Profile

Currently working as part of the Basin Structure Group within the Institute of Applied Geosciences as a Teaching Fellow, primarily helping to deliver MSc Geology with Focus on Subsurface Intelligence. Previously I was primarily helping to deliver MSc Geophysics in Prospect Generation, ran in the previous academic year (2017/2018)

Having previously completed my BSc (Hons) at Leeds in Geological Sciences, graduating in 2014, I then completed MSc Structural Geology with Geophysics part-time over two years (graduating in 2016) while working with Schlumberger (formerly Rock Deformation Research), specialising in their Petrel plugins (Structural and Fault Analysis, Guru)

Research interests

Primarily I am interested in furthering aspects of my MSc, namely in understanding basin evolution and furthering understanding and evaluation of rift margins (both magmatic and non-magmatic). Linking structural interpretations from seismic data back into aspects of gravity modelling (through use of powerful tools such as potential fields data) and petroleum systems modelling to provide a more holistic view of rift margins is of particular interest going forward.

  • Integrated Sub-Surface Analysis of Hydrocarbon Reservoirs (both MSc Geology, and MSc Structural Geology with Geophysics)
