Dr Lorraine Youds

I joined the University of Leeds as International Research and Development Manager in June 2017, moving into my current role as GCRF African SWIFT Programme Manager in November 2017.

I obtained my PhD in environmental engineering and decision-making from the University of Manchester in 2013, before working on environmental policy and as an environmental research analyst. My project management and research development background includes management of an EU Marie Curie doctoral training programme and development of Urban Living research at the University of York.

I now manage the £7.8m Global Challenges Research Fund programme, GCRF African SWIFT (Science for Weather Information and Forecasting Techniques), which aims to deliver a step-change in tropical African weather forecasting capability from hourly to seasonal timescales and build forecast capability in both the UK and Africa to continue the much-needed forecasting improvements in the African Tropics.
