Why did you decide to study at the University of Leeds?

I decided to study at the University of Leeds because of its prestige and I wanted to work with my current supervisors.

What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University so far and why?

Here I have all the things I need to do my best (great facilities: Scanning Electron Microscope, Electron Microprobe, among others) and they are usually available for students.

Tell us about some of the exciting projects you have completed.

We have studied and determined timescales of magmatic processes in small eruptive centres and stratovolcanoes, those timescales were compared with geophysical signals.

What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?

Leeds is a perfect place for students, it is a relatively cheap city, but there are all the things you need to have a good time, including great nightlife.

What are your ambitions for the future?

I would like to work in academia, specifically to help the development of Earth Sciences in Chile, the country where I come from, which has many volcanoes, most of them have not been studied.

What experiences at Leeds do you think will help you in your future career?

There are groups of study related to different subjects, but related to a single theme: volcanology. Here I have learnt to work with people with different background, we can see the same problem from different perspectives and that gives you a better "picture" of problems and solutions.

What would you say to students coming to do the same course?

A PhD is a beautiful opportunity to learn, enjoy it as much as you can. It is going to be hard, but if you work hardly, you will do it great. You do not need to be a genius, you only need motivation!
