Profile

I am a postgraduate researcher in the School of Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Leeds. My work brings food safety, regulatory compliance and data analysis, with a particular interest in how AI (Artificial Intelligence) can support the assessment of online food supplement market.

Alongside my research, I work as a Technical Manager, with responsibilities of food safety, quality management (Including ISO, BRC audits), new or existing product development and regulatory compliance. My 17 years of career has included production, quality and technical management roles, with first-hand experience of the challenges.
I hold BSc in Teacher Training in Mechatronics and MSc in Information Technologies. These interdisciplinary programmes combine understanding of technical systems on the manufacturing ground and digital technologies in food safety and quality assurance.

My decision for doctoral research grew from firstly as an interest and then a necessity of regulatory challenges. Through my research, I aim to contribute evidence that connects academic investigation with the practical regulators, industry and consumers.

Research interests

My research interest centre on food supplement safety first, then regulation of online markets and at the end responsible application or applications of AI (Artificial Intelligence) to risk assessment.

My project “Identifying Regulatory Gaps in the UK Online Food Supplement Markets through AI-Assisted Risk Classification” investigates how online food supplements can be assessed to find out potential concerns.
During my research I am interested in information presented to the consumers; ingredient list, descriptions, labelling requirements, nutrition and health claims, other legal requirements. My broader interests on digital market surveillance, risk-based regulation and food safety policies. I aim to contribute proof that supports more monitoring of online food supplement markets and protect the consumers.
