My research focuses on the dynamics of turbulent rotating convection in planetary interiors and the generation of planetary magnetic fields. Currently, I am studying combined thermal and compositional "double-diffusive" convection in Earth's outer core using direct numerical simulations. In particular, my objective in the project "Beyond 1D Structure of Earth’s Core", is to study mantle control on the dynamics and the associated dynamo action. This project will place new constraints on the fundamental properties of the outer core, including its temperature and composition, apart from the amplitude and pattern of the core-mantle boundary heat flux, leading to a better understanding of this region and its role in the generation of Earth's magnetic field.
