Dr Muriel Bonjean Stanton works at the intersection of climate adaptation, decision-making and systems change.
She leads the climate adaptation programme for the Yorkshire & Humber Climate Commission, working across local government, business, infrastructure, academia and civil society. Her work centres on three priorities: 1) supporting climate- and nature- aware decisions, 2) demonstrating climate-ready places & 3) identifying and creating economic opportunities from the transition to a climate-resilient future in Yorkshire & Humber.
Muriel’s work focuses on a simple question: how do we turn awareness of climate risks into meaningful change? She is particularly interested in how systems adapt in practice, especially when decisions involve multiple organisations, competing priorities and deep uncertainty.
Alongside her role with the Climate Commission, Muriel is a Research Fellow at the University of Leeds. Her research examines how organisations make decisions under deep uncertainty and how adaptive approaches can support long-term resilience and infrastructure transformation. Her research strengthens her practical work, while real-world challenges shape the questions she explores.
Over the past 20 years, she has worked across research, consultancy and implementation in the UK and internationally, helping organisations navigate climate risks and deliver adaptation in practice.
