TransiT (Twinning for Decarbonising Transport)

TransIT LOGO

TransiT is a national research hub dedicated to the decarbonisation of the UK transport sector through digital twinning technologies. The UoL is working with digital twin demonstrator teams throughout the country, each focused on a vital component of analogue-to-digital transformation.  This includes; road to maritime freight at the Port of Dover,  road and air freight, partnering with DHL and the East Midlands Airport, passenger rail services in the West Midlands,  and an asset-to-operation team, building a truck fleet digital twin.  Using a system approach, the UoL is designing and evaluating policies and interventions to decarbonize the transport sector with a focus on their integrated impact across the whole system. The UoL team is also engaging with stakeholders in the transport and energy sectors, local authorities and policy-makers, to co-create new regulatory frameworks and economic and business models, which reflect a complex and adaptive transport system. The use of digital twins supported by strategic learning tools and governance mapping will play an important role in evolving the UK transport sector towards interoperability and sustainability.
