Tell us about your degree at the University of Leeds
I pursued a Master’s in Food Quality and Innovation, a multidisciplinary course combining food science, nutrition, chemistry, sensory science, and new product development. We engaged in market research, consumer data analysis, recipe trials, packaging design, and report writing for launching new food products. The academic experience was rigorous yet rewarding, especially adapting to a new style of assessment. Group projects and feedback-driven improvement enhanced my skills. I gained hands-on laboratory experience, with access to state-of-the-art facilities that enriched my understanding of food analytics and scientific methodology.
What support did you access at Leeds to help with your career goals?
I actively used the university’s Careers Service. I booked consultations with CV and cover letter specialists to tailor applications for my target roles. I regularly scheduled mock interviews, which built my confidence and improved my communication skills. Initially, I applied to job postings shared by the Food Science department and the university-wide newsletter, both of which were valuable in navigating the job market.
Since graduating from Leeds, I went on to secure a role at Mars Wrigley confectionery as a Packaging Compliance Technologist. I investigate regulatory compliance for Central Europe relating to food safety and packaging development.
