Profile

I am a PhD student on the YES-DTN programme funded by NERC and am based in the Institue for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences (ICAS) withion the University of Leeds. My project is a CASE partnership with the United Bank of Carbon.

My PhD project is primarily based at Gair Wood, established by the University of Leeds in partnership with the United Bank of Carbon and White Rose Forest as part of the University’s climate action plan. The site supports urban biodiversity and contributes to UK woodland creation targets. It includes a tree diversity experiment, with different species mixtures and planting densities, alongside an area of natural regeneration. My research will investigate how woodland establishment methods and tree species diversity influence woodland development, soil carbon fluxes and mycorrhizal networks. By comparing between different planting mixtures and with naturally regenerating woodland, I aim to understand how these factors interact to shape emerging woodland ecosystems.

Previously, I have studied carbon sequestration through nature-based solutions across multiple ecosystems. My research masters project looked at saltmarsh restoration in the northeast of England.
