Profile
I am a Lecturer in Nutrient and Metabolism in the School of Food Science and Nutrition. I obtained my BSc in Cellular Biology and MSc in Pharmacological Innovations from the university of Paul Sabatier Toulouse III in France before moving to the Netherlands in 2005. There I obtained my PhD in Human Nutrition in the University of Wageningen (2009). Following the completion of my PhD I was awarded with the prestigious Marie Curie Intra European Fellowship to conduct my postdocatoral research in the Institute of Metabolic and Cardiovascular Diseases in INSERM Rangueil, France. Prior to my appointment in the School of Food Science and Nutrition, I was a senior Postoctoral research fellow and later a BHF-Maunter fellow in the school of Medicine in Leeds.
Research interests
NAFLD is the fastest-growing liver disease in the Western world with important implications for cardiovascular health. My research aims to study the implications of blood flow regulation (mechanosensing) on lipid metabolism as you can see in Science Advances, and endothelial contraction in portal vein recently published in Liver International. Most of the methods used in this project ranges from lipidomic (extraction and quantification of lipids) to molecular biology (extraction and quantification of gene and protein expression), pharmacology (drug treatment / development) biophysics (light sheet, confocal and electron microscopy), anatomical pathology (histopathology and immunohistochemistry on paraffin and cryo-sections of tissues) and in-vivo studies.

Student education
I am a module manager for Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses, and teach a variety of other modules at the School of Food Science and Nutrition. I also teach at the School of Medicine and act as personal tutor. I welcome discussions with highly motivated individuals (UG, PG students, potential PhD students or postdoctoral fellows). I supervise a number of PhD students and am enthusiastic to hear from talented individuals with research interests that align with my own. If you are interested in conducting post-doctoral or post-graduate research in the laboratory please make informal contact with me by email, attaching a copy of your curriculum vitae, and if appropriate, identification of a particular funding call. If you are currently in the School of Food Science and Nutrition either at UG or PG level and think you would like to do your research project in my group then please get in touch to discuss project options.
If you are looking for a PhD position, we have funded and unfunded projects currently available. We periodically have funded PhD positions available and are always looking for bright and motivated candidates for PhD research. If you have a project idea, or would like to study for a PhD in my laboratory, then we welcome you to get in touch. We are supporting UK/EU applicants to apply for scholarships such as the Leeds Doctoral Program, for Chinese nationals through the Chinese Scholarship Council (January deadline each year), and for Commonwealth citizens thought the Commonwealth Fund, and I am proud to say, if you have experienced a forced migration you can apply to the Leeds University Sanctuary Scheme. Self-funding PhD applicants, or those with scholarships from their home institutes and governments are also welcome to apply.
