Profile
I am a Research Fellow at the Institute for Spatial Data Science, University of Leeds. My research interests focus on GIScience, spatial uncertainty and complexity, geospatial artificial intelligence, water resources modelling, drought analysis, and climate change impacts. I have held academic and research positions at several leading institutions, including the University of Leeds, the University of Utah, the University of Salzburg, and Minia University. I also serve as an AI expert within the consultative network advising the UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence.
My work is inherently interdisciplinary, bridging geospatial analytics, GeoAI, hydroinformatics, drought and climate hazards, and environmental decision support. Alongside my academic research, I am actively engaged in the development of web-, mobile-, and AR-based geospatial applications, as well as digital humanities initiatives, and have extensive experience in teaching, training, and capacity building in GIS, remote sensing, and GeoAI.
Previous positions include, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, Minia University, Egypt from 2021 to 2025, PhD Researcher, Centre for Spatial Analysis and Policy (CSAP), School of Geography, University of Leeds, UK from 2016 to 2021, Lecturer, Department of Geography, Minia University, Egypt from 2012 to 2016, Research Scholar, Department of Geography, University of Utah, USA from 2011 to 2012, Master’s Student, Department of Geoinformatics, University of Salzburg, Austria from 2008 to 2011 and Teaching Assistant, Department of Geography, Minia University, Egypt from 2005 to 2011. In addition, I have collaborated with prestigious institutions, including the University of Cambridge as a Web Programmer and Bloomsbury Publishing Plc. as a Designer.
Research interests
My research interests lie at the intersection of GIScience, spatial uncertainty and complexity, geospatial artificial intelligence, water resources modelling, climate change, and drought monitoring and prediction, with a focus on developing Geographical Information Systems to address environmental challenges.
