- Thesis title: Sustainable Urban Tourism Policy in Indonesia: Actors, Networks, and Policy Change
- Supervisors: Dr Monica Di Gregorio, Dr James Van Alstine
Profile
I am currently undertaking PhD research in the field of environmental policy and governance at the Sustainability Research Institute, School of Earth and Environment, University of Leeds, funded by the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP). My research examines sustainable urban tourism policy in Indonesia, focusing on how actors, networks, and governance processes shape policy change. Drawing on policy network and governance perspectives, my work explores how power relations and discourses, coalition-building, institutional arrangements, and multi-actor interactions influence sustainability-oriented policy processes in urban tourism contexts. Situated within broader debates on sustainability in the Global South, my research critically engages with how policy frameworks travel across contexts and adopts a decolonial perspective to examine how actors negotiate environmental, social, political, and economic priorities.
My academic background includes a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, both focusing on environmental policy and governance in my thesis work. Prior to joining the University of Leeds, I spent nearly a decade as a lecturer in the Department of Public Administration, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, after previously working as a researcher at the Centre for Population and Policy Studies, Universitas Gadjah Mada.
Research interests
My research interest lies in governance and policy processes shaping sustainability transitions, particularly in the Global South contexts. I am interested in how actors, coalitions and networks interact within policy arenas, and how power and discourse influence policy change. My work engages with Global South and decolonial perspectives to understand how sustainability agendas are negotiated across institutional and political settings, drawing on mixed-method, network-oriented approaches to policy analysis.
