- Thesis title: Our research will test the hypothesis that fine grained lower strength sedimentary rocks at medium depth will show ductile behaviour which will allow self-sealing of discontinuities.

Profile
I am an engineering geologist with over 30 years’ experience in the UK and overseas. I have provided engineering geological input for major projects including NEOM, the UK Geological Disposal Facility, UU HARP tunnelling project, California High Speed Train Project, Sirius Minerals Woodsmith mine, Lake Mead Third Intake tunnel, Forth Replacement Crossing, Heathrow Airport T5 and Øresund Link.
I lead Jacobs’ Rock Engineering Group in Europe and I am a part-time postgraduate research student at the University of Leeds. I combine my time between technical leadership, technical project delivery, being a student and as often as I can, field work.
I am often called upon to provide specialist engineering geological input to projects as well as conferences, publications and statutory/industry guidance.
Research interests
I have a particular interest in rock engineering and Quaternary geology and processes.
