Jennifer Sides-Crump

Profile

I graduated from Huddersfield University with a BA (Hons) History in 2010, followed by a PGCE in Lifelong Learning (15+) and began teaching maths in 2013.

At this time, I also started a BSc (Hons) Combined STEM at the Open University and completed this alongside full-time teaching.

As a more open degree, I was able to combine modules from various disciplines including, Earth science, planetary science, astrophysics and astrobiology. My honours project looked at determining the habitability of tidally locked planets within Red-Dwarf systems.

I completed this in 2020 and stayed with the Open University for my MSc in Science which I completed in 2022. The module structure again allowed me to combine both Earth and space sciences, with my final project assessing the feasibility of current and proposed technologies to determine the internal structure of Enceladus in-situ.

Research interests

By using what we already know about the development of Earth, my PhD project investigates how different planets may develop if there were changes in major planetary characteristics and how this could affect their habitability for complex life to develop.
