Dr Robin Hayward

Profile

I am the communication and engagement officer for the Leeds Ecosystem, Atmosphere, and Forest (LEAF) group at the University of Leeds. My role is to inspire and engage diverse audiences with the science of trees and forests, as well as supporting others to communicate their work accessibly and effectively. I work to generate impact from academic research through a combination of social media, live performance, training, and graphic design. My background in ecology (including a PhD on the subject of logging and restoration activities in the Bornean rain forest) further enables more advanced technical communication within academic spaces.

I am particularly closely involved with research and other activities at Gair Wood, the University of Leeds research woodland, which I helped to design and plant, and for which I remain part of the steering group. I also developed the University of Leeds Tree Trail, which you can find online, as well as through physical signage on campus.

Alongside my core role as LEAF Communication and Engagement officer, I works closely with colleagues in the School of Geography to create new resources for the Inclusive Fieldwork Hub, particularly focusing on support for safety, equity, and inclusion of LGBTQ+ fieldworkers.
