Profile
My current role is as Research Fellow in Geosolutions: Geothermal Energy, within the Geosolutions Group and Institute of Applied Geoscience, School of Earth and Environment. In this role, I will work as part of the Geosolutions team towards exploring the feasibility of low carbon on site geothermal energy for the university campus and wider Leeds area, towards meeting climate goals.
I am a geoscientist by background, originally having studied geology at Imperial College London, before undertaking a specialised masters in petroleum exploration geoscience at the University of Manchester. After a brief stint in the downstream oil & gas sector I returned to Manchester for my PhD. My research, entitled “Reflection Seismic Thermometry” developed a non invasive tool for subsurface temperature prediction in offshore basins using seismic data. This work was originally envisioned for an hydrocarbon exploration audience, but I adapted it for use for carbon capture and storage and geothermal energy. Following this I worked as a consultant geophysicist in the offshore wind sector, completing my full circle transition from fieldwork geologist to workstation geophysicist.
In my free time, I can be found relaying random facts about everything under the sun, everywhere but a pub quiz.
Research interests
My research interests are in the practical application of geoscience towards solving societal problems. As such I adapted my own exploration focused research towards energy transition related use cases, working briefly in the offshore wind sector before now working as part of a geothermal research team at the University of Leeds. I am particularly interested in the use of seismic data both onshore and offshore towards resolving problems, particularly how to maximise existing datasets to derive new properties.
