Dr Baran Karapunar

Profile

I am a Research Fellow in Palaeobiology in the School of Earth and Environment at the University of Leeds. I am a member of the Earth Surface Science Institute and the Palaeo@Leeds Research Group.

I have a PhD in Palaeontology, MSc in Paleobiology & Geobiology from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Germany) and BSc in Geological Engineering from the Middle East Technical University (Turkey). Prior to my current position at the University of Leeds, I worked as a Research Fellow at Universität Hamburg (Germany). I am a taxonomic editor of the MolluscaBase.

Research interests

My current research focuses on biodiversity change and change in food web dynamics in marine communities across mass extinction events. My research also encompasses Paleozoic to Mesozoic biodiversity, palaeoecology, classification, and phylogeny of gastropods and bivalves.
