Profile

I am an interdisciplinary scientist investigating drivers of tropical deforestation and forest regeneration, in Tanzania.
Before joining the University of Leeds, I worked with the Tanzania Forest Conservation Group on conservation, development, advocacy and environmental education projects in Tanzania’s Eastern Arc Mountains and Coastal Forests.  
I value an interdisciplinary approach and am interested in linking research, practice and policy in the field of tropical forest conservation and management. 
 

Research interests

My research interests include:
-    Drivers of tropical deforestation and natural forest regeneration
-    Swidden agriculture
-    Sustainable charcoal
-    Climate – tropical forest linkages
-    Academic – practitioner – policy-maker linkages in tropical forest conservation 
-    National and international policies relevant to tropical forests including REDD+
