Qualifications: BSc Environmental Sciences; Coventry; MSc Applied Hydrobiology; University of Wales, Cardiff; PhD Fish Biology, University of Hull

Memberships/Fellowships: Member of the Fisheries Society of the British Isles Member of the Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation at the University of Leeds

Research Interests: Water Pollution And Ecology

Dr Colin Pitts joined the School in 1996 from the School of Geography at the University of Leeds. Previously, he had worked within the water industry, prior to privatization. He is interested in the conservation and management of environmental aquatic resources. He has been involved in a wide variety of work which has included water pollution control, the acidification of fresh waters, the biology of cyprinid fishes, the ecology of lowland rivers, assessing the benefits of improving water quality, catchment management and water demand management. Many of these projects have been carried out in collaboration with the Environment Agency, English Nature or water utilities.
