Research and biography
Petrogenesis of continental and oceanic magmatism and its relationship to mantle and lithosphere dynamics; 3-D seismic studies of magma migration at active volcanic margins; role of mafic magma recharge in triggering volcanic eruptions.
BA degree in Geology at Oxford University (1973), followed by a Masters degree at the University of California, Berkeley (1974); PhD at Leeds University (1976); NERC research fellowship at Leeds University (1976-78); academic position at Leeds since 1978. Since 1994 she has been the Executive Editor of Journal of Petrology, one of the leading ISI cited journals in the field of Geosciences.
Emeritus Professor from August 2013.
She was a member of the NERC Council (2007-2013), having previously served as a member of the NERC Science and Innovation Strategy Board (SISB) from 2003-2007.
