Profile
I am an Associate Professor of Atmospheric Science at the University of Leeds and a Science Lead in the Atmospheric Processes and parametrizations group at the Met Office. I hold a joint Met Office – Leeds position as part of the Met Office Academic Partnership (MOAP). My research utilises observations to study physical processes in the atmosphere and to evaluate and develop improved parameterizations of aerosols, clouds and precipitation in weather forecast and climate models. I work extensively with field measurements and have played a lead role in a wide range of UK and international airborne field experiments. In 2018 I was awarded the LG Groves Award for Meteorological Observation.
Research interests
• Microphysical processes that control the formation and evolution of clouds and precipitation
• Mixed-phase cloud systems
• Aerosol-cloud interactions
• Airborne measurements of aerosols, clouds and atmospheric state
