Dr Alice Garvey

Profile

My research focuses on spatial aspects of the low carbon transition, specifically how decarbonisation interacts with issues of regional development and equity. My doctoral research considered the concept of 'spatially just transitions' and the fairness implications of decarbonisation for the UK's regions and devolved nations.

As part of the Centre for Research into Energy Demand Solutions (CREDS) I conducted energy demand scenario modelling for the food and steel sectors. During this time (2018-2020), I was the food system modelling lead for the Positive Low Energy Futures (PLEF) project. I also undertook a secondment with the Climate Change Committee to provide evidence on industrial decarbonisation policy for the Sixth Carbon Budget advice. I recently co-authored a chapter of Greta Thunberg's The Climate Book (2022) with Prof. John Barrett.

I am an interdisciplinary and mixed methods researcher with experience in scenario modelling and spatial analysis, as well as in interviews, policy analysis and other qualitative approaches.

I hold a BA from Durham University, and completed the MSc in Climate Change and Environmental Policy at the University of Leeds.
