Why did you decide to study at the University of Leeds?

I decide to study at the University of Leeds because the University of Leeds can provide me with the best industrial placement in the field of Food Science and Nutrition so that I can secure a good career in the future.

What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University and why?

The best aspect of studying on your course is the self-study experience because the lecturers always encourage us to read beyond what we cover in class so that we have more knowledge than what is written on the slides. The best aspect of studying at the University is the reading atmosphere, you can be positively influenced by the students surrounding you or in the libraries to be more motivated.

Tell us about some of the exciting projects you have completed so far?

During second I was involved in a long-term experiment to evaluate the nutritional fact of a food product and my group chose cheesecake as our food sample. Throughout the experiments, I felt lucky that I had the chances to expose to different methods of measuring the nutrient contents in a food sample under the guidance of the lecturers and staffs which are applicable in my future career life.

What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?

Leeds as a city has a lot to offer students with many restaurants, bars and shopping offer student discount and affordable prices, especially for printing service, books and stationaries.

What are your ambitions for the future?

My ambitions for the future is to involve myself in the food industry which can relate to the food product development and how to interpret the nutritional fact of the food products.

What experiences at Leeds do you think will help you in your future career?

I learnt how to study independently by myself and this helped me able to solve problems when facing stresses or difficulties, by having good advice from the lecturers and staffs from the school. Besides that, I also experienced to expose to different cultures, especially western cultures in Leeds and it helped me to be more open-minded and understanding to different cultures other than my country, Malaysia.

What would you say to students coming to do the same course?

I will encourage the students coming to do the same course in the University of Leeds if you are really interested in Food Science and Nutrition because it can provide the best educations in this field and the industrial placements which are good for your future career, by improving your skills and knowledge.
