Dr Peter Yiga

Profile

I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the School of Food Science and Nutrition, University of Leeds. I am a Public Health Nutritionist by training, and my research focuses on understanding the nutritional effects of food system transformations and designing novel lifestyle interventions to moderate the health effects of the food system transformations.

I have a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from KU Leuven, and a Masters of Science in Human Nutrition from the University of Ghent, in Belgium. I have research experience in developing and evaluating lifestyle interventions to optimize health behaviors and cardio metabolic health. Specifically, I have applied behavioral change theoretical models to understand dietary and physical activity behaviors. Additionally, I have synthesized evidence through systematic reviews to understand drivers of dietary and physical activity behaviors in urban Africa, to inform evidence-based intervention. I have applied state-of-the-art methodological frameworks like Intervention Mapping protocol and Behavioural Change Wheel to develop and evaluate complex lifestyle interventions in urban Africa.
