What course are you studying?
I am currently enrolled in MSc Food Science and Nutrition
Why did you decide to study a masters at the University of Leeds?
I felt like undertaking a masters degree would give me opportunities to hone my skills and expand my knowledge. I chose University of Leeds as the course contents are interesting and it offers advanced facilities with excellent lecturers specialising in different scopes of food science.
What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University so far and why?
Learning about food in a greater depth has helped me understand more about what I am eating which influences my choice. The practical experiences conducted help me to further understand the topics we cover in the course. The library had large resources on foods such as books and journals which aided my studies.
Tell us about some of the exciting projects you have completed.
The projects involved in my course consist of various aspects including food science and nutrition. It was amazing that we were actually analysing the food components using the food we eat daily.
What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?
Leeds is a great city with a rich cultural background. The city centre is just walking distance from the university. There are great restaurants and loads of shopping complexes which is fun for a day/night out!
What are your ambitions for the future?
I am really looking forward to working in academia and discover new things surrounding food science and nutrition. Hopefully, with the knowledge and skills I gained, I will be able to give back and contribute to the development of my country, Brunei.
What experiences at Leeds do you think will help you in your future career?
Through laboratory experiments and assessments, I have learnt to be more independent in terms of time management. This will better prepare me to adapt to the working environment. Studying Masters in Leeds not only boosted my confidence but also increases my employability as this university is recognised to be one of the top universities for food science.
What would you say to students coming to do the same course?
I would recommend studying in Leeds if they are up for the challenge. This course is perfect for those who love to learn new things about food science and like hands-on experiences in practicals.
