What course are you studying?
I am studying MSc Food Science (Food Biotechnology).
Why did you decide to study a masters at the University of Leeds?
University of Leeds is one of the most reputed Universities internationally and is known for its quality education and level of researches. Its global ranking and skill based teaching at the Department of Food Science and Nutrition made me opt for University of Leeds.
What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University so far and why?
Food Science and Food Biotechnology is a very promising and innovative field which requires broad spectrum thinking and thorough scientific and practical knowledge. The food industry is one of the never dying and highly profitable industry globally. With increasing population and need for providing accessible highly nutritious food for different target groups is high in demand. Studying MSc Food Science (Food Biotechnology) gives us an opportunity to gain a deeper knowledge of Food Science along with modern day biotechnological techniques and their real life implementation in Food industry. Studying this course at University of Leeds provides me an opportunity to gain this knowledge from the experts that not only provide scientific knowledge but also prepare us as a whole for the industry with enhanced industrial skills and practical knowledge.
Tell us about some of the exciting projects you have completed.
I have written a few Review papers and one Research paper as a part of the curriculum. The laboratory sessions have increased my knowledge and better understanding of real life industrial set ups and experiments performed. I would be performing my research project June onwards on a very interesting topic related to lipid encapsulation and Nutraceuticals.
What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?
Leeds is a student friendly city being home to many reputed universities and colleges. Being a student city, Leeds is a pocket friendly place compared to other UK cities. Situated in the North of England, Leeds is a modern city with a lot of amazing shopping places, clubs, pubs, restaurants providing cuisines from different parts of the world, variety of events and a beautiful nightlife. Living in Yorkshire brings many desirable benefits including being in close proximity to some of the world’s most beautiful countryside and having a variety of cities to explore. Leeds city centre has a fantastic selection of museums and art galleries, providing free entry. This lively city also provides student discounts at various shops and opportunities for part time job seekers. Great connectivity to various places via coach, train, and airport, makes it an ideal student friendly city.
What are your ambitions for the future?
After gaining my education from University of Leeds, I intend to work as a Food Scientist at a reputed Food company. I would like to work towards the development of fortified foods and nutraceuticals. I also wish to start up my own Food Company that would provide diabetes friendly modified food products.
What experiences at Leeds do you think will help you in your future career?
Quality education, practical knowledge and development of industrial skills at University of Leeds will definitely help me in achieving my future goals. Cultural knowledge and better understanding of a different world gained by making friends from different parts of the world has given me an unforgettable experience and lifetime memories.

University of Leeds is one of the finest and recognised Universities of the UK and Internationally. This course is perfect for any individual interested in gaining in depth knowledge and its practical application in Food Science and Biotechnology. A large list of reputed future prospects like setting up your own industry or working at an established food industry as a scientist, researcher, manager, New product developer, quality analyst, etc. are open after this interesting course.
