What course are you studying?
Msc. Food Quality and Innovation
Why did you decide to study a masters at the University of Leeds?
The University of Leeds is among the top-rated universities in the UK academically as well as in terms of student experience. I chose the University of Leeds because it provides an amazing international platform for students to pursue their dreams through eminent facilities such as infrastructure, well-equipped labs and remarkable faculty.
What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University so far and why?
The best aspect of my course it that it is a blend of both theoretical and practical knowledge. To shine in the workplace of tomorrow one needs to have a correct blend of both and the excellent lab facilities in addition to theoretical knowledge through assignments and presentations gave me a better insight into my course.
Tell us about some of the exciting projects you have completed.
Through the opportunities provided to me as a part of my course, I was able to take up some challenging yet interesting projects under the modules of Food Product Development and Food Analysis.
Under the Food Product Development module, working in a team and interacting with students from all over the world helped us exchange ideas and learn from each other. We learnt team communication, team hard work and team spirit and together we are currently working on the development of a new yoghurt-based ready to eat chilled product.
Food labels hold a lot of importance on packages and my course provided me with the opportunity to create and design a food label under the Food Analysis module which is quite unique.
What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?
With students making up a large part of the city’s population, Leeds is extremely student-focused and oriented offering an experience home away from home. Some of the perks of being a Leeds student is that you have several accommodation options to choose from and fantastic transport links. Amber cars are too convenient and safe and even if one runs out of cash, they can always take a ride by submitting their University of Leeds student ID card and the next day it can be collected from the university desk by paying there. Due to its small size, it is easy to navigate around. With lots of students around, the atmosphere is always amiable. From Leeds, you can be in Edinburgh in three hours; London in two and a half; Liverpool in two and Manchester in just one.
What are your ambitions for the future?
Specialization in my field will help me achieve my dreams of working in a food industry or organisation and provide my services for the upliftment of the same.
What experiences at Leeds do you think will help you in your future career?
Interacting and socializing with people from different parts of the world gave me an international exposure and at the same time helped me to boost my confidence.
What would you say to students coming to do the same course?
To the students coming to my course, first of all, I would like to congratulate you all for going to be a part of such as an esteemed university. Pursuing my studies here, I can assure you that you will be in the best of hands and will definitely emerge out with flying colours on the completion of your course and shine brightly among the rest. In nutshell, you will be proud to call yourself a student of the University of Leeds.
