Funded research opportunities in the School of Food Science and Nutrition

The School of Food Science and Nutrition has a number of funded postgraduate research opportunities available to students.

The School of Food Science and Nutrition is globally renowned for its teaching and research and has an established reputation for delivering high-quality research, with 100% of research being rated as ‘outstanding’ or ‘very considerable’ in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014. These research projects will give postgraduate students access to a wide range of research facilities, training and development opportunities and many links with industry.

These are the current funded postgraduate research projects offered by the School:

• Soya transitions and implications on agri-food systems in Zambia - closing date 30th June 
• PhDs in Soft Matter and Functional Interfaces (SOFI) Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT)
• ERC funded Doctoral Studentship: Relating Oral Tribology to Sensory Perception

The following projects are self-funded research opportunities open to all students worldwide:

• PhD in Food Colloids & Interfacial Science
• Bayesian clustering, Dirichlet process mixture modelling and metabolic profile landscape analysis of fat and lipid biomarkers derived from large-scale lipidomics
• Physiological and psychological mechanisms of resistance to weight loss
• The role of genetics in the regulation of metabolism and cardiometabolic diseases and cancer
• Mycotoxins: dietary exposure and global health
• Sugar sweetened beverages/drinks and health
• Genetics regulation of metabolism and breast cancer risk
