Obituary: Megan Povey

We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of Megan Povey, a long-standing and highly valued member of staff at the School of Food Science and Nutrition, University of Leeds.

It is with great sadness that we write to announce the death of our colleague, Professor Megan Povey. Megan passed away peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday 9 September.

Megan was an outstanding scientist and pioneered the use of acoustics to analyse food structure. She influenced many academic careers as a highly valued mentor, collaborator and colleague.

Megan joined the School of Food Science and Nutrition (then the Procter Department of Food Science) in the mid-1970s and has made a huge contribution to the development and success of the school. She will be remembered not only for her professional commitment and achievements, but also for the positive impact she had on those who knew and worked alongside her over many years.

We know you will join us in remembering Megan and reflecting on her many contributions to our school and university community. Our thoughts remain with Megan’s family and friends at this difficult time.

We will share any further information regarding funeral arrangements and opportunities to pay tribute to Megan in due course.
