Profile

PhD applicants from around the world: Contact me if you have already secured an international scholarship to come to the UK to undertake a PhD in peatlands, water chemistry and catchment management. I would be very happy to speak with you about supervising your PhD and to design a suitable project with you.

Research interests

The principal focus of my research is the carbon cycling of peatlands and the impact of organic matter on the water industry. This comprises the biogeochemistry and cycling of organic matter in upland catchments, examining the environmental impact of land use, and the degradability and composition of organic matter; integrating the outputs within the wider framework of greenhouse gas emissions and the treatment of drinking water from peatlands and river catchments. I currently have a NERC Independent Research Fellowship to investigate how peatland pools impact carbon cycling, water chemistry and microbial processing. I previously had a NERC Industrial Innovation Fellowship to investigate the composition of dissolved organic matter and its impact on drinking water treatment.
