The role of the water cycle in climate dynamics - ICAS External Seminar

Institute for Climate and Atmospheric Science External Seminar: Speaker- Peili Wu, Met Office Hadley Centre

Brief CV: Peili Wu is an expert scientist at the Met Office Hadley Centre. He obtained a PhD in Meteorology and Diploma in physics from Imperial College London. He then worked as postdoc in ocean modelling at Edinburgh University before he joined the Hadley Centre in 1999.

His research interest includes physical oceanography and climate dynamics, coupled climate variability and change in particular. He led the Met Office’s Improving Hydrological Predictions project and played an active role in NERC’s changing water cycle programme. In recent years, he is heavily involved in developing UK-China collaborations in the climate area; previously as the climate science lead for DECC/Defid’s Adapting to Climate Change in China (ACCC) project and currently the Climate Science for Service Partnership (CSSP-China) project as work package 3 lead on East Asia climate variability and extremes supported by the Newton Fund.

His CSSP work covers regional water cycle, East Asia Monsoon, drought, western Pacific tropical cyclones and convection permitting high resolution modelling.

The seminar will be followed by cake and coffee in the School foyer.
