Dr Tracy Aze

Welcome to the BSc/MEnv Environmental Sciences programme.

Welcome. I’m Tracy Aze the programme leader for the BSc Environmental Science programme.

The BSc in Environmental Science aims to give students a wide perspective on the ways in which different aspects of our environment interact, while providing them with the relevant skills to become effective environmental managers. The degree programme provides a broad applied understanding of the scientific issues and of the techniques used to underpin environmental study.

As a student you can expect to be in frequent contact with practising experts from a variety of environmental fields as well as academic staff. You will be expected to deal with the wide range of environmental issues and challenges facing us on global and local scales. You will learn skills that will help you to apply the sophisticated techniques available to environmental scientists in solving environmental problems. At the end of the course you will have a thorough command of the subject and of transferable and environmental skills, and you will be well-placed to enter employment or postgraduate education.

Your course includes practical work e.g. computer modelling techniques and laboratory work, and there is plenty of fieldwork including day trips – so check out the fieldtrip pages to see where other students have been and also what kit you will need.

To help you prepare for your studies on this page you will find links to the programme catalogue, a reading list to help you familiarise yourself with some of the course texts and also an activity which will get you thinking about your subject area.

I look forward to meeting you in person soon.
