New stations “disbenefits”: do through-passengers really stop using rail?

When a new station is opened, it often increases the travel time for ‘through-passenger’ flows by 2 to 4 minutes. The BCRs of new station proposals have been shown to be highly sensitive to the associated through-passenger demand reductions. This project investigates the ex-post effects of some stations to better understand whether and to what extent ‘through-passengers’ really stop using rail.
