Rossana Escanilla-Minchel

Profile

I am a Civil Engineer with an MSc in Engineering Sciences, and I am currently a PhD researcher funded by ANID Chile. My research focuses on the impacts of climate variability, land cover change, and climate change on hydrological processes, with particular interest in the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO), water resources, and catchment response in Chile.

Before starting my PhD, I worked for four years as a consultant on water resources projects in Chile. My work involved developing hydrological and hydraulic models, including 1D and 2D modelling, as well as carrying out statistical analyses of hydrometeorological variables and climate change projections to support water management. I also gained fieldwork experience in water quality monitoring, topographic surveys, soil sampling, and streamflow measurements.

I have also worked as a university lecturer, teaching Hydraulics, Hydrology, and Fluid Mechanics. This experience strengthened my interest in academia and research, and included supervising two Master’s dissertations in 2021, both of which were later published as peer-reviewed articles.
