Dr Christine Bösch receives prestigious bioinnovation award
Dr Christine Bösch received the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology International Award in Bioinnovation 2024 for her research into gut microbiota.
The prestigious LIST (Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology) International Award in Bioinnovation recognises ground-breaking research papers published after 1st January 2021 in natural plant compounds, their bioavailability, encapsulation, transport and effectiveness.
Research into gut microbiota
From a strong shortlist which featured papers of outstanding scientific relevance, Dr Bösch has been recognised for her publication “Effect of two-week red beet consumption on modulation of gut microbiota in human healthy volunteers – a pilot study”, published in Food Chemistry in 2023.
This study investigated gut microbial changes following red beetroot consumption via a 14-day intervention trial in healthy adults, highlighting the potential benefits of red beetroot consumption in influencing gut microbial populations, gut health and systemic health.
Dr Bösch attended an award ceremony in Luxembourg in November, where she gave a presentation about her work and its impact.
Outstanding record of research
Dr Bösch, Head of Nutritional Sciences and Epidemiology in the School of Food Science and Nutrition said: “I am absolutely thrilled about the award! It recognises the importance and impact of the piloting work on this topic conducted over the last years in my research group.”
Professor Paul Sharp, Head of the School of Food Science and Nutrition said: “I was thrilled to hear that Christine Bösch has been awarded the prestigious LIST International Award in Bioinnovation for 2024. Christine has an outstanding record of research on plant bioactive compounds.
“The award is given for her recent groundbreaking study linking red beet consumption with modulation of gut microbiota in healthy human volunteers. Congratulations Christine on this fantastic achievement.”
