PhD research presented in parliament

Jennifer McLauchlan was selected to present her research to politicians and expert judges in parliament on 11th March.
PhD researcher Jennifer attended as part of the STEM for Britain event, an annual poster competition which began in 1997 to give members of the Houses of Parliament an insight into the outstanding research work being undertaken in UK universities by early-career researchers.
As scientists, it is our responsibility to share our work with the general public
Jennifer said: “As scientists, it is our responsibility to share our work with the general public. This is why an event like STEM for Britain is a great chance to practice communicating high-level research in a concise and accessible way.
“I really enjoyed meeting other researchers from across the country and discussing popular opinions surrounding the science I presented.”
Jennifer’s PhD project involves designing sustainable plant-based microgels in collaboration with Oatly.
She uses a combination of experimental techniques and coarse grain modelling to determine structure-property relationships.
Jennifer is a team member in the Sarkar Lab at Leeds.
