Healthy and Sustainable Places Data Service listed in Big Issue's 100 Changemakers

The Healthy and Sustainable Places Data Service (HASP) has been named one of Big Issue's 100 Changemakers of 2026 for its work using smart data to reduce health inequalities in the UK.

The list celebrates people and organisations making positive change, through categories including Housing and Homelessness; Culture and Sport; and Environment and Climate.

HASP is included in the Food and Nutrition category for its use of high-quality smart data to inform research and action around access to healthy, sustainable food and lifestyles.

For example, its Priority Places for Food Index identifies neighbourhoods most at risk of struggling to access healthy food. The tool supports policymakers and civic and third-sector organisations to take effective action.

Big Issue said: “HASP helps turn smart data into practical action on health and food inequality. Part of Smart Data Research UK, HASP provides secure access to high-quality data on food, lifestyle and mobility patterns, alongside maps and dashboards that make local challenges easier to understand.”

Professor Michelle Morris, Deputy Director of HASP and Priority Places for Food Index Academic Lead, said: “We are proud to have been named as a Big Issue Changemaker, alongside brilliant individuals and organisations, passionate about getting nutritious food to all.

“The Priority Places for Food Index unlocks the power of data and makes rich insights about neighbourhoods widely available, ensuring that support to access healthy, sustainable food is meaningfully targeted.”
