I am a University Academic Fellow (UAF) of Urban Analytics in the School of Geography at the University of Leeds. My research areas are agent-based modelling, urban analytics and housing markets. I develop agent-based models to analyse complex urban systems, and use the dynamic models to study the transitions of urban systems under social and economic shocks. In my research, I look at the interconnection of various sub-systems in an urban area, including the housing market, the labour market, urban space and infrastructure. My research has shown that the interactions between different sub-systems can lead to unexpected outcomes and can only be found by taking an integrated approach to the urban system. I am also interested in decision making in complex systems, and incorporating various AI algorithms such as reinforcement learning in multi-agent systems.

Research interests

I am developing an agent-based urban system model with a coupled housing and labour market to study the transition of a city after major socio-economic shocks. The work is based on a pilot study of the transition of Aberdeen City after the oil crisis in 2014. Using an agent-based model and an integrated approach, I analyse the evolution of an urban system under the coupled labour-housing market and the transition paths of different neighbourhoods in a city under major socio-economic shocks. My research provides a holistic analytical framework for urban systems under shocks and major paradigm shifts, and can be used to measure the level of urban resilience after major socio-economic shocks.
