Why did you decide to study at the University of Leeds?

I am always interested in the processing of food products, and the University of Leeds has a high ranking in its Food Science course. As well as this studying abroad in the UK also gives me a chance to broaden my view and learn to be independent.

What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University and why?

The BSc Food Science course has really impressed me a lot in terms of its scientific approach. The best aspect so far is learning about the interaction between the different ingredients in a food. Lecturers are also professional in teaching us the related topics. I am allowed to choose a discovery module that can involve other fields, such as business and language so that I can gain more knowledge that is not related to my original course.

Tell us about some of the exciting projects you have completed so far?

I am currently investigating a new technique called acoustic diffractometer as a particle sizing system. It is quite interesting to study the particle size of different emulsions and their corresponding behaviour in different aspects. I enjoy working in a laboratory and discussing the results obtained with those who are experts in these areas. The most important thing it is not just a theoretical course, it has lots of practical elements too.

What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?

Leeds is a good city for studying, it is not too crowded or too quiet. The University of Leeds is close to the city centre so it is always easy for me to buy groceries and something I needed. There is also a lot of restaurants and cafes that I can enjoy during my busy life in university.

What are your ambitions for the future?

I am planning to go back to my hometown and work in a food industry. There is quite a lot of work choices for me since Food Science at the University of Leeds has given me a lot of information on food science and nutrition industry. My knowledge can then be applied in different departments of a food industry.

What experiences at Leeds do you think will help you in your future career?

The best experience is working with others as a group as well as communicating.  There is quite a lot of group work on the course and I have really learned a lot from my groupmates. Besides that, I believe that the laboratory skills and presentation work will be useful in my future career.

What would you say to students coming to do the same course?

Enjoy the course and don’t be scared of asking a favour from others when you meet difficulties in your study.
