Masters students host fun nutrition fair

Last month, the School of Food Science and Nutrition had its inaugural Nutrition Health Fair with its Masters of Nutrition students.
Student, staff, and the public loved the engaging and interactive stalls, which included topics like ‘food makeover’ and ‘brain healthy foods.’
There were food tasting opportunities, giveaways, leaflets, and competitions for the visitors. The activities were all developed by MSc Nutrition students.
The fair was part of a new Curriculum Redesigned module called ‘Health Promotion: Applications of Theory and Practice’ at the School of Food Science and Nutrition.
The Curriculum Redesigned approach has been running at the University of Leeds to innovate and create an exceptional learning experience for our students.
The Nutrition Health was designed to give students the opportunity to apply their learning and nutrition education principles in a practical, ‘real world’ activity in order to give them the skills and experience to succeed in their future careers.
Lecturer Dr Katherine Markwell said: “It was a wonderful event with our students putting their learning into action to educate staff and students to improve their eating.
“The students included great practical activities, recipes, and tasting samples to create an exceptional event.
“I am proud of their achievement and look forward to seeing what our future graduates achieve in their Nutrition careers.”
Next year, the MSc Nutrition students will be joined by undergraduate nutrition and biomedical students to expand the event and create more opportunities.
