Dr Rory Padfield

Meeting our newest cohort of students during Induction Week is always an exciting time for me. It’s great to get know one another and open up about our expectations for the programme.

Induction Week also provides an opportunity to welcome our students into the dynamic community of people interested in Sustainability and Business, whilst nurturing the early bonds between staff and students.

And, of course, I’m always incredibly proud to see our students celebrate their achievements on Graduation Day – a genuine highlight of my year!

Thanks to the high calibre of our staff, the University of Leeds is one of top ranked institutions for sustainability related research. In the Business and Organisations for Sustainable Societies (BOSS) Research Group, we have a proven track record of engaging with key industry, governmental and third sector actors in our various research endeavours. This outstanding research base is invaluable to the quality of the teaching on the MSc programme.

Finally, if you are familiar with the city of Leeds or are learning about it for the first time, I can assure you it’s one of the most stimulating and vibrant places to be studying Sustainability and Business. It is home to a growing number of businesses – new and old – while a seemingly constant stream of initiatives highlight the various sustainability challenges facing us at this critical time. Climate emergency protests on the steps of the Town Hall and the launching of plans to become a carbon neutral city are just two of many examples!
