Professor Quentin Fisher

Professor Quentin Fisher

Profile

I'm currently Professor of Petroleum Geoengineering at the University of Leeds and CEO of PETRIVA, which is a recently established spin-out company providing consultancy services and data-mining/visualization software. I was awarded a PhD in low temperature geochemistry in 1993. I then worked for Rock Deformation Research Ltd (now Schlumberger) where I spent around 15 years conducting research and consultancy work on the impact of faults on fluid flow in petroleum reservoirs. In the last 15 years, I have become involved in research projects that integrate workflows and software in the geology, petrophysics, geophysics, geomechanics and petroleum engineering disciplines, which I apply to problems such as CO2 storage.

Responsibilities

  • Director of Wolfson multiphase flow laboratory

Research interests

  • Unconventional gas (petrophysics, geophysics, geomechanics of shale & tight gas sandstone)
  • Faulting, Fault Sealing and Fluid Flow.
  • Data visualization and data mining
  • CO2 storage
  • Up-scaling fault rock properties for reservoir simulation
  • Top seal integrity prediction
  • Multi-phase flow in low permeability porous media
  • Geomechanics of petroleum systems
  • Seismic anisotropy
  • Diagenesis and reservoir quality of siliciclastics.
  • Reservoir compaction.
  • Microseismicity.
  • Compaction of siliciclastic reservoirs as a result of fluid withdrawal
